Certificate Program and Occupational Endorsement

ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Northwest Campus High Latitude Range Management (HLRM) program offers two levels of recognition.  HLRM certificate is a part time three year program.  Students participate in two or three intensives annually, to complete program requirements.  HLRM Occupational Endorsement program focuses coursework on a smaller set of courses (13 credits); a benchmark achievement on the way to the 31 credit certificate program.

  • Engage in a variety of hands-on learning opportunities, including frequent field trips related to reindeer, wilderness, meat production and rangeland management.

Hands-on learning in the rangeland management program

If you enjoy taking your work beyond the classroom and into the field, this is the program for you. In our Meat Production course, you’ll get to butcher, cook and eat reindeer, learning why certain cuts of meat have a different monetary value. In another course, you’ll take samples from the field and get an example of how much forage will sustain a local herd. You’ll also learn about GPS, wilderness first aid, Arctic survival, bear safety, boat safety, snow machine operations and more. 

 


 

Range Management Jobs

HLRM program combines academic and indigenous knowledge at the local, national and international levels to offer courses which help prepare students for entry-level jobs in the field of natural resources or to become a reindeer entrepreneur. 

Students learn field-based techniques that agencies use to inventory, monitor and manage plant and animal populations as well as the land. The HLRM program may be used to apply for admission into advanced-level university programs and international student exchanges.
