Mrs. Catherine Brooks
Associate Professor of Rural Development, Emeritus
WHEREAS Mrs. Catherine Brooks served the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Fairbanks in teaching, research and service from 1993 to 1996 and from 2009 to 2024; and
WHEREAS Mrs. Brooks joined the Department of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Native Studies and Rural Development faculty in 2012; and her students rated her highly for her inclusive approach and recognized her as the Associated Students of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ 2013-2014 outstanding faculty member; and
WHEREAS Mrs. Brooks’ interest and immersion in the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Native community has led to unique research, including the investigation of relationships between ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Native people and sled dogs, that has expanded the understanding of rural development and influenced numerous scholars in the field; and
WHEREAS Mrs. Brooks served the university not only by participating on numerous committees and departmental initiatives but also through her personal guidance to students, staff and faculty members; and she served the broader ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ community through volunteer activities, most notably her tireless contributions to the annual Festival of Native Arts;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Mrs. Catherine Brooks for her extensive contributions to the state of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ and to the university; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Mrs. Brooks and as evidence of the university’s desire that her identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Mrs. Catherine Brooks as associate professor of rural development, emeritus; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Mrs. Catherine Brooks, and conveyed to Mrs. Brooks on this third day of May, 2024.
