Mr. Michael Daku

Associate Professor of Justice, Emeritus

WHEREAS Mr. Michael Daku has served the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Fairbanks with distinction in teaching and service from 1991 to 2024; and

WHEREAS Mr. Daku, after earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ in 1981 and 1984 respectively, worked extensively in Fairbanks social services; and he taught as an adjunct beginning in 1991 and joined the faculty in 1998; and he developed and taught scores of courses while earning a reputation as a stellar professor; and

WHEREAS Mr. Daku led the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Department of Justice through curricular changes that earned it national recognition as provider of one of the nation’s best online master’s degree programs in law enforcement administration; and he helped numerous students find careers in criminal justice through his coordination of the justice intern program; and

WHEREAS Mr. Daku served in the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Faculty Senate and on multiple ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ committees; and he contributed his expertise outside ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ as a member of the Fairbanks Community Restorative Justice Initiative;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Mr. Michael Daku for his extensive contributions to the state of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ and to the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Mr. Daku and as evidence of the university’s desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Mr. Michael Daku as associate professor of justice, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Mr. Michael Daku, and conveyed to Mr. Daku on this third day of May, 2024.
