Dr. Jon Genetti

Associate Professor of Computer Science, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Jon Genetti has served the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and service from 1993 to 1996 and from 2001 to 2024; and

WHEREAS Dr. Genetti’s exemplary teaching covered twenty-eight different computer science courses during his ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ career; and he served as advisory committee chair for six master’s students; and

WHEREAS Dr. Genetti is a world-renowned expert on computer graphics rendering and planetarium visualization; and, during his time at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, he made major contributions to shows seen by millions at the American Museum of Natural History’s Hayden Planetarium in New York City; and his 2003 visualization of the Orion Nebula won second place among three hundred entries in a challenge sponsored by the National Science Foundation and Science magazine; and

WHEREAS Dr. Genetti served as Department of Computer Science chair three times for a total of more than a decade, served as a member and as president of the Faculty Senate, and worked on several additional ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ committees;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Jon Genetti for his extensive contributions to the state of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ and to the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Genetti and as evidence of the university’s desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Jon Genetti as associate professor of computer science, emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Jon Genetti, and conveyed to Dr. Genetti on this third day of May, 2024.
