Dear ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ faculty and staff,

In September 2019, the Board of Regents requested that ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, UAA and UAS move forward with expedited program reviews as a means to find budget savings. During the 2019-2020 academic year, ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ conducted an expedited review of approximately half of our academic programs. We will be reviewing the remainder of the programs (PDF) during the 2020-2021 academic year. In addition, because they include faculty tenured in programs delivering academic, research or extension content, the following will also be reviewed:
  • developmental education
  • Cooperative Extension Service
  • Marine Advisory Program
We will use the review process we used last year with a slight modification, per . Expedited review focuses on department and program enrollments, cost effectiveness, and academic quality and centrality to ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ’s mission.

Committees will be appointed to include representatives recommended by the Faculty Senate, ASÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ and Staff Council. Should the program wish, two representatives will be able to attend committee discussions. The process will begin in September and I will make my recommendations to the Board of Regents in March 2021 following a period of public input and feedback.

While expedited review does seek to find efficiencies and budget savings, it does not necessarily mean that a program will be eliminated. Possible recommendations include continuation of the program, restructuring, revision, suspension and elimination. Throughout the process, our primary consideration will be how to provide students with high-quality academic programs to meet their educational goals.
