ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ faculty and staff,
On Wednesday, Vice Chancellor Owen Guthrie sent aÌýmessage to ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ students affirming that tuition will not be increasing for the 2024-25 academic year. His
email was in response to confusion about 2024 tuition rates that arose from an ASÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ
message about a tuition protest and the resulting local news coverage.
Vice Chancellor Guthrie’s message includes information about ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ’s tuition and fee-setting
process and opportunities for students to get involved. If you receive questions from
students, I recommend you direct them to his message or suggest that they reach out
to Vice Chancellor Guthrie directly.
Currently, we are at the start of our tuition and fee process for the fall 2025 semester.
Since there was no tuition increase for fall 2024, there has been some conversation
about whether or not one would be needed for fall 2025 to keep up with rising costs.
However, the formal process for this discussion is just beginning and there are many
steps along the way to a final decision. The process for consideration of tuition
rates for fall 2025 will begin soon. Any proposals approved by me will go to President
Pitney for her consideration. The President will take into account system-wide needs
and present a proposal to the UA Board of Regents for a first review in September
2024 and then for a final decision in November 2024.
If you have any questions or want more information on the tuition and fee process,
please contact me at uaf.chancellor@alaska.edu.
Thanks for choosing ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ,
Dan White, chancellor
