Amanda Byrd, the chief storyteller at the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Center for Energy and Power, is among the winners of the Navigating the New Arctic photo contest.

Byrd earned second place for a photo taken in Kongiganak during her first ACEP storytelling assignment in 2017. It shows children running along a boardwalk in the village with the community’s 475 kw wind farm in the distance.

Navigating the New Arctic projects are funded by the National Science Foundation. They address challenges in the Arctic by documenting the region’s rapid biological, physical, chemical and social changes. More information about the NNA photo contest, including the winning entries, .
