Help design a civic engagement rubric
Nov. 17, 2021
The General Education Requirements and Core Committee is developing universitywide assessment tools, and is now looking for participants to help formulate the Learning Outcome 3 assessment.
The committee wants anyone who is passionate about ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ General Education’s third learning outcome, which stresses civic engagement, intercultural competence, and knowledge of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ and ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ issues.
The committee has formed EAGER to share with like-minded folks: Energy, Aspirations, Gifts, Expertise, Reflections. The GER and Core Faculty Senate Committee, led by chair Jeremy Speight, has named these events Eager Plans.
The goal is to meet each other and co-design a new, faculty-driven, institutional process to ensure all students learn this outcome in ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ’s General Education program.
To join on Saturday and/or Sunday, Dec. 4-5, from 2-4 p.m., RSVP to Sarah Stanley at sstanley2@alaska.edu. She will share a calendar invite with a link to the Zoom for the planning party.
This Eager Planning Party is one way to get involved in designing the pilot, but you will have more opportunities. For example, Eager faculty may decide to join others in piloting a new assessment scheme for Learning Outcome 3 in spring 2022. The results of the spring 2022 pilot will be used to involve all General Education courses that have been identified as meeting this outcome in fall 2022.
