Mindfulness workshop planned for August
Wendy Martelle, ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ assistant professor of applied linguistics and English as a second language, will facilitate two half-day workshops for ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ instructors on applying mindfulness practices to working with students.
Martelle is training to become a certified mindfulness meditation teacher and these workshops are part of her training. Participants can expect instruction in theories of mindfulness and its impact on individual and community well-being, with particular attention to teaching and learning contexts. These workshops will allow participants to experiment with mindfulness practices and craft customized applications for their ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ classrooms. All ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ faculty and instructors interested in connections between mindfulness and pedagogy are welcome.
The workshops are scheduled for Aug. 15 from 1-4 p.m. and Aug. 6 from 9 a.m.-noon with optional programming in between. The retreat will be hosted at the Chena River Cabin located at Mile 32.2 Chena Hot Springs Road outside of Fairbanks.
