StrongPeople exercise program aimed at midlife, older participants

A 12-week exercise program designed for midlife or older men and women is scheduled to start on Jan. 30 in Fairbanks.
The StrongPeople class is a safe and highly effective program focused on building muscle strength; improving bone density, balance and mobility; and preventing falls. It is appropriate for novices as well as more experienced individuals. Students will use free weights and leg weights.
Classes are led by Leslie Shallcross, a health, home and family development agent with the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service. Shallcross has led and supported community-based StrongPeople programs for 17 years.
Classes will be held from 2-3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 30-April 19, in Room 108, University Park Building, 1000 University Ave. The fee is $30; discounts are available. Potential participants must complete health screening forms and may be asked to obtain a medical provider authorization to participate. Participants can through Jan. 26, 2024.
