Week’s events: Jim Sampson, vein health, tsunami preparedness, acoustic tunes

University of Ӱ Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here is what’s happening next week: 

  • On Monday, June 20, the Tall Timbers interview series will offer a conversation with former Fairbanks North Star Borough mayor and labor leader Jim Sampson. Veteran journalist Robert Hannon will lead the discussion, which will be at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of Ӱ’s Engineering Learning and Innovation Facility.
  • On Tuesday, June 21, the Healthy Living lecture series will feature Dr. Don Ives discussing “Varicose Veins: How Treatment Can Keep You Healthy and Active,” at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Wednesday, June 22, the Discover Ӱ lecture series will feature Elena Suleimani, research analyst at the Ӱ Earthquake Center, on “Tsunamis in Ӱ: Are We Ready for the Next Big One?” at 7 p.m. at the BP Design Theater.
  • On Thursday, June 23, the Music in the Garden concert series will host an evening of acoustic Americana with Jameson Effect at 7 p.m. at Ӱ’s Georgeson Botanical Garden.
