Week’s events: Tall Timbers, hearing health, cartooning, bagpipes

University of Ӱ Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here is what’s happening during the week of June 12-18:

  • On Monday, June 12, the Fairbanks Tall Timbers interview series begins with a conversation with Barbara Lando, lifelong learning and aging expert. Lando served as the Ӱ director for Elderhostel and was the driving force behind Ӱ's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. She recently helped establish Aging at Home Fairbanks, a membership organization that supports independent living and community engagement for older adults. The lecture is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of the Usibelli Building.
  • On Tuesday, June 13, the Healthy Living lecture series will feature audiologist Lily Hughes, who will focus on “Making Sense of Hearing Health in 2023” at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Wednesday, June 14, the Discover Ӱ lecture series will host cartoonist Jamie Smith. He will present “Nuggets of Whimsy: Adventures in Northern Cartooning” at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Thursday, June 15, the Music in the Garden concert series will feature the Red Hackle Pipe Band at 7 p.m. at Ӱ’s Georgeson Botanical Garden.

All events are free and open to the public. Parking on the Ӱ Troth Yeddha’ Campus is free after 5 p.m.
