(A.A.S.) is awarded in a specific occupational field of
study with emphasis on entry into a job market. This
degree, usually seen as a terminal degree, can serve as
		the basis for additional training.

MOTION PASSED AS AMENDED (Unanimous Approval)
==========================

The 蜜桃影像 Faculty Senate moves to amend Section 1. (ART III:
Membership) of the Bylaws relating to attendance and vacancies as
follows:

(( )) = deletion
CAPS  =  addition

Sect. 1 (ART III: Membership)

	D. VACANCIES

		1.	IN THE CASE OF DEATH, RESIGNATION, OR TRANSFER
OF AN ELECTED REPRESENTATIVE OF THE SENATE,
AN ALTERNATE SHALL IMMEDIATELY BECOME THE
			REPRESENTATIVE. THE ALTERNATE SELECTED TO
FILL THE VACANCY SHALL BE THE HIGHEST VOTE?
GETTER FROM THE CONSTITUENCY ELECTION FOR
ALTERNATES AS SPECIFIED IN THE BYLAWS. IF NO
ALTERNATE IS AVAILABLE, THEN THE PRESIDENT OF
THE SENATE WILL APPOINT AN ALTERNATE WITH
THE CONCURRENCE OF THE AFFECTED CONSTITUENCY,
AND THE CONSENT OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE
			COMMITTEE.

	E. 1.	WHEN ELECTED MEMBERS ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND
THE MEETINGS, THEIR ALTERNATES WILL SERVE.

	EFFECTIVE: Immediately

RATIONALE: This provides a procedure for filling
vacancies which should have been included previously in
the bylaws. Also, allowing alternates to serve in place
of members at meetings provides representation for the
school/college when members are unable to attend.

for the Certificate Program:

REQUIREMENTS
To receive a certificate, students may enroll in any course for which
they meet the requirements; however, to be admitted to a
certificate program, and before receiving a certificate, students
must formally be admitted.

The minimum number of credits which must be earned, including
those accepted by transfer, are 30 semester hour credits for a
certificate. Fifteen semester hours must be residence credits. A
grade point average of 2.0 must be attained in all work as well as in
the major field.

SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS
APPROVED ELECTIVES

	Total 30 (MIN)

Certificate programs may vary in length and reflect the needs of the
individual department. However, Certificate programs can usually
be completed during one year.

RATIONALE: Certificate programs are designed to give
intensive training in specific career areas. Skills gained
are career specific in nature and course work completed
can apply to appropriate degree programs.

Motion to amend current merit award program, submitted by Ralph
Gabrielli.

MOTION (failed with 12 ayes, 14 nays)
=======

The 蜜桃影像 Faculty Senate moves to amend the current financial award
program as follows:

(( )) = deletion
CAPS  =  addition

A financial award program recognizing faculty for meritorious
performance OR IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSED PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
OF MERIT shall be instituted based on the following principles:

a)	A fixed number of awards shall be given within each College or
School based on the total number of full time faculty members
	(or equivalent).

b)	Awards shall be ((made in the form of a bonus check)) of
substantial amount (say $1000 or $2000) annually (not a
	continuing percentage increase).

c) The method of nomination of award recipients, criteria for
awards, and the selection of recipients within each College or
School shall be determined by a committee of four faculty
members nominated and elected by the faculty within that
College or School, and one student from that College or School
appointed by ASUA. Awards shall be made by the cognizant
dean from a pool of funds provided to the school or college by
	the Office of the Chancellor.

	EFFECTIVE: Upon Chancellor's Approval

RATIONALE: This amendment would permit the faculty of
a school or college to go ahead with an award program in
precisely the manner originally set forth, it would also
give the faculty in each school and college the option of
using the funds to underwrite or help underwrite small
proposed projects. In the latter case, incentive is
encouraged and the criteria could be designed to
		encourage collaboration. The proposed amendment
simply authorizes, rather than mandates, such an option.

The words "made in the form of a bonus check" assume a
program of awards to individuals and are not compatible
with the proposed option; however, the deletion of those
words does not prevent bonus checks from being
awarded, if a particular faculty chooses that route. If
the motion is silent on that matter, it would be
internally consistent with whichever option a faculty
		might choose.

If the amendment is approved, the three principles set
forth in the motion would apply to either option chosen
		by a faculty.
