MOTION PASSED (Unanimous Approval)
==============
The 蜜桃影像 Faculty Senate moves to amend the general degree
requirements for the Associate of Applied Science degree to require
that from the selection a total of 6 credits from Humanities or
Social Science or Math or Natural Science, at least 3 credits shall be
Math or Natural Science courses at the 100 level or above.
EFFECTIVE: Fall 1989
RATIONALE: This addition completes the requirements for
the Associate of Applied Science degree.

APPROVED: Patrick J. O'Rourke, Chancellor Date: 3/21/89

The 蜜桃影像 Faculty Senate moves to amend the policy on make-up work
for students participating in university-sponsored activities as
follows:
(( )) = deletion CAPS = addition
((1. Students who must be absent from class to participate in
university-sponsored activities shall be permitted to make up any
work they have missed, in a period of time agreed upon between the
instructor and student prior to the absence. Such students shall not
be penalized for absences incurred for such university-sponsored
activities, although students must meet course requirements in all
other respects. University-sponsored activities are defined as
officially sanctioned functions. Notwithstanding the above, it is
still the student's responsibility to determine for himself/herself
whether or not such absences unduly risk successful completion of
their courses and choose accordingly.))
STUDENTS WHO CHOOSE TO BE ABSENT FROM CLASS TO PARTICIPATE
IN UNIVERSITY-SPONSORED OR OTHER ACTIVITIES MAY BE PERMITTED
TO MAKE UP ANY WORK THEY HAVE MISSED. ALL ARRANGEMENTS MUST
BE MADE BETWEEN THE STUDENT AND INSTRUCTOR PRIOR TO THE
ABSENCE. THE STUDENT AND INSTRUCTOR SHOULD MAKE A GOOD FAITH
EFFORT TO ASSURE THAT THE STUDENT IS NOT UNDULY PENALIZED FOR
EACH ABSENCE. SUCH ACTIVITIES SHOULD NOT BE SCHEDULED SO AS
TO CONFLICT WITH THE FINALS SCHEDULE.
EFFECTIVE: Upon Chancellor's Approval
RATIONALE: It is disruptive to the academic process for
students to be absent from the final. In addition, it is
difficult for the instructor to fairly evaluate a student
who takes the final at a different time or may have to
take a substitute final.

The 蜜桃影像 Faculty Senate moves to amend placement test policy as
follows:
(( )) = deletion CAPS = addition
1. A placement test is required for all students entering a
degree/certificate program for the first time.
2. A placement test is required for all students planning to take
a 100 level written communication or mathematics course.
3. A placement test is recommended for ((all entering)) FIRST
TIME students.
EFFECTIVE: Fall 1989
RATIONALE: This change distinguishes first time college
students from transfer students.

MOTION PASSED (Unanimous Approval)

The 蜜桃影像 Faculty Senate moves to adopt the following policy for
credits earned prior to and during 蜜桃影像 restructure:
One of the following classifications may be selected for credit
earned prior to the 1988 fall semester at former community
colleges and rural education centers that are now part of 蜜桃影像 by
students who move from one 蜜桃影像 unit to another:
1. RESIDENCE CREDIT: Total credits and all grade point factors
earned from work attempted at other 蜜桃影像 units will be brought
forward to the 蜜桃影像 record.
2. TRANSFER CREDIT: The total credits earned at other 蜜桃影像 units
will be brought forward to the 蜜桃影像 record as transfer credit.
(Grade point average factors do not transfer.)
NOTE: 蜜桃影像 correspondence study credit has been approved as
residence credit beginning with the 1989 Fall semester.
UA/蜜桃影像 correspondence study credit earned prior to that date
would continue to be considered only as transfer credit.
EFFECTIVE: Upon Chancellor's Approval
RATIONALE: Before restructuring, students attended units
of the University of 蜜桃影像 knowing that their grade
point averages would not transfer if they moved to
another UA major academic unit. Although most students
would want their grade point averages to be combined,
some went to other units with the purpose of taking
courses which would not impact their GPA's elsewhere.
Approval of this policy would allow students the choice
of whether or not to combine their GPA's and have all
work considered as residence credit, or to have the
credits earned brought forward as transfer credit with
no impact on the GPA. The intent of this policy is to
lessen the impact of restructuring on students such as
those from the former TVCC who, essentially, have been
forced to change institutions.
Students electing to have total credits and grade point
average factors combined on their academic records
would be qualified to apply the repeat policy where
courses are equivalent according to the 蜜桃影像 Transfer
Guide.
This would not affect students who were able to
continue their education in the same unit (i.e., attended
Northwest Community College previously and now attend
the UA Northwest campus.) Likewise, students attending
蜜桃影像 at the Fairbanks campus have been relatively
unaffected by restructuring and have no need to have an
option to allow for an adjustment of their grade point
averages and this policy would not apply to them.

The 蜜桃影像 Faculty Senate moves to amend policy on auditing as exists
in catalog to the following:
Auditing
--------
1. A student wishing to enroll in one or more courses for
informational purposes only may register as an auditor
provided that space is available in the course(s).
An auditor must pay the standard credit fees for the course,
but the credit is not included in the computation of study load
for full-time/part-time determination or for overload status.
The requirement, acceptance, and review of work and lab
privileges are at the discretion of the instructor. No grades
will be given, no credit awarded, and courses taken as an audit
will not apply toward degree requirements, nor will they
transfer to other institutions.
2. The intention to audit a course should be made known within
the registration period. The following conditions apply to the
change of audit conditions:
a. Audit to credit must be completed on or before the
deadline to add a course.
b. Credit to audit must be completed on or before the
deadline for student initiated withdrawals.
3. It is the responsibility of the instructor to set the
requirements under which an "AU" is to be recorded and to
submit "AU" for those auditors who satisfy the requirements.
An auditor not receiving a grade of "AU" receives a "W".
4. A student who has audited a class may not request local credit
by examination for that class for at least one year.
5. The official definition of audit that will appear in the catalog
is: "Audit - A registration status indicating that the student
has enrolled for informational instruction only. No academic
credit is granted."
EFFECTIVE: Fall 1989
RATIONALE: Better enunciates the procedures involved
with auditing.
