Online Offerings
As online educational opportunities expand and technology improves, we are too. Our department now offers several online lab courses such as:
- CHEM 100 Chemistry in Complex Systems
- CHEM 103 Introduction to General Chemistry
- CHEM 104 Introduction to Organic Chemistry I
- CHEM 105 General Chemistry I
- CHEM 106 General Chemistry II
- CHEM 321 Organic Chemistry I
- CHEM 325 Organic Chemistry II
We are constantly working to expand our online offerings so that you can gain exceptional knowledge for your degree in chemistry, biology, engineering, and more. Anytime and anywhere.
Our Organic Chemistry I course comes with a customized lab kit so you can perform experiments at home and get the most out of your education. Dr. Tom Green instructs this course and has been teaching for decades. He has developed an asynchronous schedule so that you can watch pre recorded lectures anywhere.
Experiments include:
- Use of Molecular Modeling Software for structure analysis
- Nuclear Magnetic Spectroscopy, with processing of real spectra
- Infrared Spectroscopy interpretation
- Thin Layer Chromatography
- Crystallization
- Synthesis of Ethers
- Dehydration of Alcohols
- Reduction of Camphor, a natural product.
Academic Advising
Your academic advisor is an incredibly useful resource and will help guide you in your course selection, plans for graduation, academic struggles, questions, and goals. When you first start in the program, your advisor will be the wonderful and amazing Amy Wald.
After a year or two, you will be assigned a faculty advisor based on your degree focus. For all you chemistry students, it will be the knowledgeable Dr. Howard. If you are concentrating in Biochemistry or Environmental Chemistry, Dr. Green will be your go to. Explore the tabs to learn more about your advisors!
