SMA Classes
Large Ensembles
SMA Concert Band- This large ensemble is open to all wind, brass & percussion students. Directed by TJ Hovest.
SMA Orchestra- This large ensemble is open to all string players. Directed by Dr. Daniel Strawser.
Musical Theatre- Sing and stage (movement) scenes from beloved musicals. All students are welcome. Directed by Dr. Jaunelle Celaire & Amy Ingram.
Academy Symphony- This is an audition ensemble. Students will play alongside faculty and guest artists. Directed by Trevor Adams.
Academy Choir- This is an audition ensemble. Students will sing classical choral literature alongside faculty and guest artists. Directed by Dr. Jaunelle Celaire & Amy Ingram.
Jazz Band- This large ensemble is for students that want to explore Big Band Jazz music. Brass, Reeds, Percussion, & Piano students are welcome. Directed by TJ Hovest.
Jazz Choir- Learn to sing jazz standards in tight harmony. Directed by Dr. Jaunelle Celaire & Amy Ingram.
Show Choir- It's all about Glee! Combine singing and dancing for this fun choral experience. Directed by Dr. Jaunelle Celaire & Amy Ingram.
Chamber Music
Chamber Music- Small Ensembles consisting of one player per part (ex. String Quartet). Chamber ensemebles are offered for a variety of instruments with a variety of instructors.
Instramental Choirs & Ensembles- An ensemble of similar instraments (ex. Flute Choir, Guitar Ensemble).
Jazz Combo- This smaller ensemble will explore more intimate genres of jazz music. Jazz Ensembles are directed by TJ Hovest.
Rock Band- This ensemble explores popular music. Directed by Nathan Arnold, Dr. Sean Dowgray, & TJ Hovest.
Lessons
Masterclass- Masterclasses are offered for a variety of disciplines. These classes will focus on improving solo repetoir in a group setting so students of different levels are learning from each other.
Guitar Lessons- Students of all levels are welcome to improve their skills. Students must provide their own guitars. Taught by Nathan Arnold.
Ukulele- Students of all levels are welcome to learn this instrument or improve their skill. Students must provide their own ukuleles. Taught by Nathan Arnold.
Sectionals- Focus on the technique(s) needed to be successful in ensemble playing.
Piano Lessons- Students of all levels from beginner to advanced will improve their skills on the piano. Taught by Suzanne McBride-Ruedy, Jim Spontak, & Hannah Wagar.
Enrichment
Rhythm Theory- Good rhythm is imperative for musicians both for solo & ensemble work. This course will focus on techniques for improving rhythm.
Ear training for Singers- This class is developed around concepts that are particularly important for singers.
Music History- This course will look at the composers, developments, and musicians that have gotten us to where we are now.
Boomwhacker Choir- This course is the definition of a fun time. Boomwhackers are lightweight, hollow, color-coded, plastic tubes, tuned to a musical pitch by length. Students will work together to create a fun musical experience.
World Beat- All are welcome to join in this practice in rhythm. Students will use rhythm to create songs organically.
Orff Ensemble- This ensemble explores Orff instruments.
The World is My Instrument- An exploration percussion ensemble that utilizes the things we find all around us.
Piano Greats- Take a look at what made famous pianists stand out.
