Overview
Our Mission
Connecting you (students, faculty, and staff) with programs in the Fairbanks community or on campus that fit your individual interests so that you get the most out of your volunteer experience.
Volunteering is a great way to develop your leadership potential while also helping those in the community. As a busy college student it can be hard to get off campus and volunteer, which is why we offer volunteer opportunities and provide the transportation. We also facilitate annual Alternative Spring Break trips to places like El Salvador, New Orleans, and San Francisco for those who want a more in-depth volunteer experience.
Benefits of Volunteering
You have the opportunities to impact change as a ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ and Fairbanks community member. Every student, faculty member, and administrator can make a positive difference in where the live, work, play and learn. Volunteering is a vital piece of your educational experience that will help you improve critical thinking and give you an opportunity to learn new skills. Volunteering might even prompt you to explore career options you may not have considered.
Employers are looking for 'well-rounded' graduates. This means they look for graduates who have not only performed well academically, but have engaged in a variety of activities outside of the classroom. Volunteering gives you the chance to:
- Gain valuable experience and put your skills to work in a field related to your studies
- Develop your employability skills
- Develop contacts and networks in a field relevant to your career goals
- Make a contribution to society in accordance with your personal values
- Help your resume stand out from the crowd
- Graduating with your COLD certificate
OUR REGULAR VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES!
Saturday of Service (SOS)
During our monthly SOS, students volunteer their time, giving back to the Fairbanks community. Students spend 2- 4 hours volunteering with meaningful service projects at community organizations such as the Fairbanks Food Bank, Green Star, and the Boys & Girl Club - all while spending time with fellow students, growing and developing their skills as leaders.
Alternative Spring Break
Students have many options when deciding how to spend their Spring Break. The AB program exposes students to complex social and cultural issues through community visits, experiential learning, direct service, and reflection activities. The program's vision is to transform students into advocates of social change on issues affecting our communities.
