Psyche, the Greek immortal GODDESS of the SOUL, depicted as a Butterfly winged goddess, was once mortal and stunningly beautiful which brought upon her the wrath of Aphrodite the goddess of LOVE. Aphrodite persuades EROS (Amor) to visit Psyche and make her fall in love with the “most contemptible of all man”. But AMOR falls in love himself with Psyche and hides Psyche in a safe place where he visits her at night – doing what lovers do whispering sweet nothing to his beloved. - Amor cannot reveal his identity to Psyche and she must never seek the truth about WHO he is if their love is to remain. Psyche reveals her lover’s identity and Amor abandons her. Psyche distraught tries to commit suicide and from there on wanders the land until she arrives at the abode of Aphrodite. There she becomes Aphrodite’s slave and endures all sufferings bestowed upon her by Aphrodite. Throughout her trial and tribulations Amor continues to cherish her and makes the UNBEARABLE BEARABLE. AT LAST HER SUFFERING ENDS WITH Aphrodite’s jealousy and wrath a thing of the past and she ascends to IMMORTALITY, WHERE SHE AND AMOR are united forever.
All toils and tribulations may end in heaven…post-Christ church perspective PATER NOSTER
…. Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom comes.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
[For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.]
