Biotic Monitoring
Toolik Field Station (TFS) has been monitoring biotic systems since 2007.
Monitoring of bird species and bird density have occurred since 2008, when Toolik established a bird point count transect.
The arrival and departure of bird species is also recorded through the TFS Naturalist Journal.
Plant Phenology monitoring began in 2007 on both Moist Acidic Tundra and Dry Heath vegetation. Monitoring of plant phenology occurs for the most common species in each vegetation type.
Since 2011, weekly measurements of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) have been recorded at the phenology plots as well as along two transects in each of the vegetation types.
