Staff Development Funds
Staff Alliance offers professional development support
Staff Alliance is once again offering support for staff for activities that directly support their professional development in FY24. Examples include but not limited to: Professional certifications, attending or presenting at a conference, professional society memberships, online or in-person trainings, webinars. (Please note, this is not applicable to UA class fees.)
This support is good for any activities occurring within FY24*, and is for up to $500 per employee, while the funds last.
*If you have a situation where you need to pay for something in FY24 that will not take place until after FY24, please email neromanovsky@alaska.edu. We'll review this on a case-by-case basis.
Requirements: Must be a current regular staff person at UA, excluding Executive staff classifications. Must fill out the application linked below.
Selection: The Staff Development Fund committee will review applications once per quarter in FY24 (see review dates below). They will score the applications and award the top applications until funds are exhausted for that quarter.

staff development survey and held numerous discussions to determine how to allocate
this funding to have the greatest impact on ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ staff.
1. $12,500 allocated; will cover approximately 50 employees up to $250 each for tuition or fees.
2. This process will be coordinated along with the Bursar’s Office and treated in a similar
manner to the tuition waiver process.
3. Status: A Next-Gen form and approval process has been created; advertising will
begin prior to the hard closure and funds will be awarded on a rolling basis until
the fee payment deadline or the funds have been extended (whichever comes
first).
Conference Registration Stipend:
1. $6,000 allocated; first come first serve until funds are expended.
2. Must be used for professional development conferences and/or online professional
development classes
fund/org to provide to their procurement specialist.
LinkedIn Learning (lynda.com) Subscription:
1. $13,000 allocated for 250 licenses. Licenses will be managed by ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Staff Council and
will be good for one calendar year from the date of the agreement’s execution.
2. Licenses will be issued to those that don’t have access through their local library.
3. Status: Partially Implemented: the procurement has been submitted and awaits
approval.
Guest Presenter Stipend:
1. $5,000 allocated.
2. The University Advocacy Committee will seek opportunities for new brown bag lunches
with guest speakers. These funds may also be used to support a presenter for Staff
Recognition and Development Day.
3. Status: Pending implementation in spring 2022.
UAA/UAS/SO Staff Council Collaboration:
1. $5,000 allocated; will be coordinated with Staff Alliance membership.
2. Funds will be used to support staff development opportunities and open other councils’
activities to ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ staff members.
3. Status: Pending implementation in spring 2022.
Affinity Group Support
1. $3,000 allocated; will be coordinated with the Staff Alliance affinity groups committee.
2. Funds will be used to support the implementation of affinity groups; groups will be
provided an opportunity to request start-up funds and funds for ongoing activities and
operations.
3. Status: Pending implementation of the Staff Alliance affinity groups proposal in
spring 2022.
Staff Leadership Institute:
1. $4,500 allocated.
2. ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Staff Council has held discussions with G2 Diversified Services as well as faculty in
CTC’s applied business program to explore options to create a series of professional
development workshops with a specific focus on supervision and growing skills for
employees who wish to become supervisors.
3. Status: Pending; it is likely that research, planning and assessment will take place
in spring 2022 with workshops taking place during FY23.
ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Staff Council will continue to review progress towards the implementation of each of these
initiatives. Unused funds may be allocated to other initiatives or new projects as needed.
