Academic Advising
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Advising appointments include discussions about student information that is confidential and protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, commonly referred to as FERPA. Students must complete a FERPA release form for all guests aged 18 years or older attending an advising appointment (in-person, over the phone, via zoom, etc.) with them before the advising appointment can proceed. Students can revoke their FERPA releases at any time. A FERPA release allows university employees to discuss a student's educational record with another person, but does not require them to do so.
