Academic Tuesdays: April 11, 2023
April 11, 2023
Engineers and computer scientists are people who combine concepts from science, math, art, humanities and business to create functional products and processes for the betterment of society. Just as society's needs are changing due to climate change, technological advances, resource scarcity and social changes, the approaches we use to create those products and processes must also change. Indeed, the discipline of engineering itself must change. ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ's College of Engineering and Mines is hastening that change by creating ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ's engineering workforce of tomorrow.

Under former UA President Jim Johnsen, the UA goal was to have ~44,000 students, more than twice what we have now across the system. Academic Tuesdays: March 28, 2023

Wicked problems such as climate change require complex and interdisciplinary solutions. As Mike Toman from the World Bank put it: "Climate change is an issue that presents great scientific and economic complexities, some very deep uncertainties, profound ethical issues, and even lack of agreement on what the problem is." Preparing students for interdisciplinary work while also acquiring deep knowledge is a goal of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ and the College of Natural Science and Mathematics. Teams in CNSM and other colleges have developed programs that allow students, both undergraduates and graduates, to sharpen their interdisciplinary skills. Friday Focus: RCNE on the move
March 24, 2023
Since assuming the role of Vice Chancellor of Rural, Community and Native Education in January 2021, my team has been busy planning, adapting, and evolving. RCNE is unique within the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ structure which can make it challenging for some to understand our full scope. Since 2017, the RCNE unit has officially housed the Community and Technical College and the College of Rural and Community Development as two distinct colleges. Prior to that change, the unit was formerly known as the College of Rural ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ which included many of the programs that served ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ's community college mission. RCNE has continued to grow and expand in recent years and so this week's Friday Focus is dedicated to sharing some of the notable highlights.
