Winter gear drive for the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ FreeStore

The Office of Sustainability is hosting a winter gear drive for the FreeStore. This includes coats, sweaters, gloves/mittens, scarves, boots, hats and earmuffs. This drive benefits students on campus who may not have access to adequate winter gear for the Fairbanks cold season. Donations are being collected from Sept. 22 to Oct. 5.

April Jaillet has been appointed the new director of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Career Services, beginning Sept. 22. Jaillet holds two degrees from ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ (BM 2009, MA 2011). Career Services is located in the newly renovated space on the 6th floor of the Rasmuson Library.

Last week, Chancellor White hosted his 2024 convocation, which serves as a welcome back to our students, faculty and staff at the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Fairbanks. In his remarks, he mentioned several initiatives such as the Troth Yeddha' Indigenous Studies Center, a new arena to support ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ hockey and the Fairbanks community, and ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ's efforts to achieve designation as an R1 research university. Today I would like to take the opportunity to talk a little bit more about those strategic goals and how you can help.

Nanook Technology Services is launching a Strategic IT Planning Initiative to better align technology services with the evolving needs of the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ community. As part of this initiative, NTS is conducting a stakeholder survey in collaboration with Info-Tech Research Group to gather feedback on key business objectives. The survey will measure how well technology services meet ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ's needs and guide the strategic planning efforts.

Over the past couple of weeks, many people have told me that the campus feels more vibrant than they can remember. We have all been seeing this, but when I walked into Arctic Java around lunchtime on Tuesday, it was downright packed! I don't recall the last time I saw so many gathered in our central oasis of coffee and snacks. It is great to feel the surge of energy that accompanies the start of a new academic year, and it is great that our classrooms and buildings are teeming with the voices, footsteps, and laughter of students returning to ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ. Fall is in the air and we are back! This is the time when our campus truly comes to life, and it is easy to be reminded of the purpose behind everything we do: building opportunities for our students to explore and thrive.
