Internships
A distinctive part of the department’s program is internship training in Fairbanks area government and private agencies for interested students. We support the legislative internships in the state capitol and provide other opportunities for students who wish to do international affairs internships in Washington D.C. In all cases, students learn actual government roles.
Most internships, fellowships, and scholarships require nomination by the university. If you are interested in any of them please contact the faculty advisor for information. This list is not exclusive. Faculty learn of new opportunities throughout the year.
Dr. Amy Lovecraft is the campus coordinator for the m which provides a unique opportunity for ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ students to gain valuable, direct experience in government by serving on the staff of a member of the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ State House or Senate. Every year three ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ students are selected to spend spring semester in Juneau, where they work closely with the professional legislative staff for the entire fifteen-week session. Students also participate in a seminar in which they receive instruction on state government and legislative politics, meet state government officials, and share their experiences with other interns. The internship provides a stipend to cover transportation and living expenses. Students earn 12 upper division credits in political science.
