June 23, 2023
When introducing myself in professional settings, I often find the need to clarify the meaning of University Advancement. It can sometimes be confusing for those who are not familiar with the term. At its core, advancement’s primary goal is to cultivate strong relationships with our stakeholders — alumni, donors, community members and the public. These relationships help propel ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ's mission forward and accomplish our goals. We're dedicated to fostering connections, engaging supporters and making a meaningful impact on campus and beyond. At ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, University Advancement encompasses three departments: University Relations, the Development Office and Alumni Relations.

Friday Focus: Budget season is here!
June 16, 2023
Welcome to budget season! When the academic year ends and most students head home for the summer, the ramp-up for fiscal year close-out (and restart) begins. Although you may not see it because this work is often behind the scenes, there is a flurry of activity for fiscal professionals this time of year. If you pass by your fiscal or procurement office and the person there (or online) looks frazzled, thank them for their efforts and help keep them motivated! The deadlines are fast approaching and the pace to keep up means many folks are scheduling their summer vacations around these closing and opening fiscal activities to ensure it all gets done on time. I want to acknowledge this hard work and thank our fiscal staff, leaders, and business office teams for this quiet dedication and thoroughness - your work is critical to our healthy financial operations and helps management at all levels stay "in the know" as part of decision-making for the coming year. Thank you!

Friday Focus: Thank you Policy Committees!
June 09, 2023
The sun is out and the end of FY23 is nearing! Things are always bustling at the end of each fiscal year as fiscal staff are working round the clock to close out accounts, create budgets for the new fiscal year, and clean up any last-minute financial pieces that support staff, faculty, and students. Meanwhile, most students are on a break exploring what life has to offer while our student athletes enjoy some time off from their busy seasons. Faculty are teaching summer courses, doing community outreach, and conducting cutting-edge research from here at Troth Yeddha' campus to all the way in Antarctica. Administrators and other staff are planning for the upcoming fiscal/academic year and working hard on all of the things that make ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ an amazing university and a place of belonging. With the business of fiscal year-end, I wanted to take a minute and thank all the staff, faculty and students for all you do.

Friday Focus: Thinking big - our path to R1
May 25, 2023
In 2018, I was invited by Chancellor White to lead ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ's strategic planning goal to "Achieve R1 research status." At the time I was relatively new faculty and knew little about the Carnegie Classification's Very High Research status university ranking (R1). I was also used to working within my own discipline and focused on my own research. Achieving R1 status was a big idea that, like many other faculty on campus, I had difficulty wrapping my brain around! Together, with a team of faculty, staff, and students from across ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, we learned what it means to be an R1 university, how R1 would benefit ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, and how ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ could achieve that goal.
